The topic was carefully selected and with the same intensity, was the Title. This is the most discussed and most targeted topic in our country. The thought behind this goes something like this- Communalism can not survive without politics.
Something about Communalism first, the world argues over whether the movements are about ethnic, religious, linguistic, regional or any other wide variety of adjective differences, we in India have solved the problem by thinking in terms of communities, the communities are most often thought about as a social unit living with the same norm, values or customs but here in our land, it is understood as a religious group first. Thus Communalism can be stated as an ideology that rises from religious pluralism or the enmity practised by the people of one community against the people of other community. It is an ideology which states that society is divided into religious groups whose interests oppose each other.
Now let`s head towards the politics part-The politics is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in a group. It directs the group in a particular direction aiming at improving their status. The job here is a responsible one. As far as history tells us politics has been used for numerous good and bad reasons and among the bad ones is to wage war.
Politics politicizes our diversity for its own good. Words like minority and majority, privileged and unprivileged have been used by some political leaders to create doubt and uneasiness among people of different communities. Communal violence like Partition of India 1947, Anti-Sikh riots 1984, Kashmiri Hindu Pandit exodus 1990, Babri Masjid Demolition in Ayodhya 1992, Gujarat riots 2002, Muzaffarnagar violence 2013 are among few that have suffered politicized communal wrath. Communalism has grown into a serious problem looming over a large part of India today. The communal harmony that our ancestors once enjoyed seems a faded reality. If we continue on such a path and don`t mend our ways soon enough, India may witness a violent civil war in future.
The politics behind every move must be understood with utmost clarity and sensibility. People tend to fall for the traps laid by so-called political leaders in the name of ethnicity and religion. They can instigate one community to perform certain unethical acts towards other community for their own good. We should be more honest about our own self. We must imbibe goodness like co-operation, respect to other religions and adjustment with others in ourselves. There is a great need to work towards eradicating the philosophy of communalism. There is a need for collective efforts. All have to discharge their duties. If we do so, harmony will prevail.
