Courage is the ability to do something difficult even when there`s a risk, it is the attitude of facing and dealing with anything recognized as dangerous, difficult, or painful, instead of withdrawing from it. Courage is neither an intellectual quality nor can it be taught in the classroom. It can only be gained through multiple experiences involving personal risk-taking. Courage comes from the heart.
Courageous people do feel fear, but they are able to manage and overcome their fear so that it does not stop them from taking actions. They often use the fear to ensure that they are not overly confident and that they take the appropriate actions. Their state of mind does not wrestle with their virtue of courage. It acts as fuel for their actions. Courageous people stand up against things that threaten them or the things or people that they care about. They take action in a way that is consistent with their values. Sometimes, however, the action required is not necessarily loud, but quiet and thoughtful.Courage is a highly prized virtue, and many famous and respected people have spoken or written about it over the years. Acting courageously generally makes us feel good because it involves mastering emotions. Kids build courage as they mature and take on more challenges. You can help kids develop courage by encouraging them to take calculated risks, supporting their individuality, and allowing them to fail safely. Everyone has talent. What`s rare is the courage to follow it. Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine. Confront the dark parts of yourself, and work to banish them with illumination and even if you fail have the courage to start all over again.
A ship is safe in harbour, but that`s not what ships are for.
